Boys And Girls Southwest

Keystone Club & Torch Club

KEYSTONE CLUB is a dynamic teen program for ages 14 to18, and it provides youth valuable leadership and service experiences. Teens conduct activities in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service. Members elect officers and engage in a broad spectrum of activities. TORCH CLUB is a leadership and service Club for ages 11-13. Members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in the following four areas: service to the Clubs and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation. Each year Torch Club members from all over the country take part in a service-learning experience through the National Torch Project.

Health & Wellness

Our Health & Wellness programs develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors to nurture their well-being, set personal goals and grow into self sufficient adults. We do this by providing safe places for members to practice healthy decision-making, participate in physical activities, and engage in programming designed to promote social-emotional wellbeing.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Boys & Girls Clubs Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs are removing barriers to creating opportunity and advancement. We can continue to move towards racial equity by shaping a robust dialogue among Club leaders, staff, board, volunteers, and young people. These specialized initiatives provide Club staff with training and resources to ensure young people who are frequently marginalized or overlooked can be included and supported at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford.

Career Launch

CAREER LAUNCH program for teens, where they identify job requirements, seek out financial aid and participate in career and job skills such as resume writing, interview preparation and job-seeking skills.

Mission Statement

To enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as caring, productive and responsible citizens.

Cultural & Inclusive Events

BGCH is committed to providing training for Youth Development Professionals to support an inclusive and culturally responsive environment when interacting with youth and their families. Today, systemic gaps present an opportunity for us to collectively create equity and equality for everyone, particularly for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. Together, on Our Journey to Racial Equity, BGCH is doubling down on advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to create a Club culture of belonging to achieve our mission. We at BGCH as an ecosystem designed to support equity explicitly, where staff and youth are free from explicit and implicit bias, prejudice, and discrimination.

Million Members Million Hours of Service

A MILLION MEMBERS MILLION HOURS OF SERVICE is to encourage good character in youth and an appreciation for citizenship and to provide every Club member with opportunities to serve in year round volunteer activities. We expose members to the world of possibility surrounding them when they're empowered to make a positive difference in their lives and communities. Teens who volunteer are making meaningful changes in their communities.

Workforce Readiness

The workforce landscape is undergoing a drastic change with technological innovations, the demand for new skills, and the impact of a global pandemic. Our programs help young people meet the workforce challenges of tomorrow, providing a safe space and positive mentorship to prepare them for success in their first job and helping them develop a plan to pursue the career of their dreams.

Academic Success

At the Boys & Girls Clubs, we are developing globally competitive graduates with the skill, knowledge, training, and education they need to pursue their goals and interests. Our programs are designed to ensure that all our Club members graduate from high school on time, ready for post-secondary education or work skills with a 21st Century career. We do this through homework help, innovative programs, and collaboration with schools.

STEAM

STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math. Through our STEAM programs, the Boys & Girls Clubs are committed to closing the opportunity gap in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics with innovative and creative programs and activities for our Club members. After-school and summer learning environments provide unique opportunities to advance STEAM knowledge and increase interest in STEAM-related careers.

College Tours

COLLEGE TOURS emphasis on higher education continues to evolve, with a deepening commitment to recruiting more youth — particularly teens — more often, as well as producing more graduates with strong pathways from high school to college to career. The aim is to level the playing field for club members — many of whom will be first-generation college students— and strategically partner with higher education institutions to create and enhance access to college pathway experiences.
